In the area of Renawable Energies, as we previously mentioned, Grupo Ortiz maintains several power plants that are currently operating at a high level of productivity. ELECOR has had a presence at these plants as an EPC contractor and a contractor of the M&O.

As a result of the growth in activity and the extensive experienced gained over the course of 2010, the company has made a great commitment to this sector through the creation of the company ORTIZ ENERGÍA. This company will bring together all of the Group businesses’ services and aid in the attainment of EPC contracts and further increase the company’s presence in these increasingly important markets.

The success of the abovementioned efforts was confirmed with the signing of the EPC contract for the “La Africana” Thermosolar Power Plant, which utilises molten salt containers for energy storage. It is located in Almodóvar del Río – Córdoba, and work was begun in 2010. This Plant, whose solar field is made up of 510,000 m2 of parabolic mirrors, adds 50 MW to the REE thereby ensuring the production of 177 Gwh of clean energy annually for twenty-five years, simultaneously reventing the emission of 4.2 million tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere.
