Environmental projects: Wastewater Treatment Plant, Lugo

The Wastewater Treatment Plant in Ribadeo, Lugo, has a design discharge of 2.7 million m3. The plant has the capacity to purify water generated by a population of 37,500 inhabitants, as it is designed to treat 7,500 cubic meters per day.

On November 7, 2008, The Xunta de Galicia awarded the public works concession for the drafting, construction and operation of the Wastewater Treatment Plant in Ribadeo (Lugo), for a period of 20 years from its commissioning to the Ribadeo temporary consortium, in which the Grupo Ortiz has a 33.3% share.

The plant has been in operation since 14 September 2011.

The temporary consortium has four sources of income, all funded by the Xunta de Galicia:

• Income Amortization: independent of the actual flow, with which the investment is repaid

• Fixed Income: independent of the actual flow rate, to cover the fixed costs of the plant

• Variable income: Based on the actual flow, to cover the variable costs of installation

• Income from waste: in line with the waste generated by the sewage

The investment was financed with non-recourse factoring for shareholders. Income amortization wsa yielded to the funding entity.

Since its commissioning, the plant has been treating the amount of water expected in the initial estimates, having purified 1.8 million m3 and treated 650 tons of waste in 2013, representing an income of more than half a million euros and a 3% increase over the previous year.
